Greggs have responded to Piers Morgan’s criticism of their new vegan sausage roll.

Despite the fact we’re literally destroying the planet because of the amount of meat we eat, Morgan insists on belittling the vegan diet, as well as sharing his disapproval of animal-friendly food alternatives, across the internet.

On Twitter yesterday (January 2), the bakery announced their highly anticipated new ‘sausage’ roll would be arriving in stores today (January 3), allowing vegans to finally enjoy the delicious, comforting snack.

Along with a mouthwatering video of the new product, they tweeted:

The wait is over… 3.1.19

Available alongside the best selling regular sausage roll, the vegan friendly option will replace the sausage filling with Quorn, which is then wrapped in 96 layers of puff pastry.

According to the Evening Standard, Roger Whiteside, Chief Executive of Greggs, explained the reasoning behind the new addition to the menu.

He said:

Like many food retailers we have seen increasing demand for vegetarian and vegan products.

We have been trying to develop a Vegan version of our famous sausage roll for some time now.

It’s not been easy but our taste panel customers all love this one, so we have decided to launch it as our contribution to Veganuary.

But of course, the Good Morning Britain presenter couldn’t possibly let the announcement pass by without sharing his opinion, even though, as usual, no one asked for it.

Retweeting the video of the new product, Morgan responded:

Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns.

How dare he insult the bakery like that! They’re one of the best things about this country.

To really emphasise his stand against veganism, the show host later tweeted about how he’d ordered a sausage roll of his own – though not from Greggs. He’s much too pompous for that; his had to come on a silver platter.

He wrote:

Just ordered a large sausage roll on room service.
A meat one.
Real meat.
The vegan resistance starts here.

Being well-known for his controversial opinions, and after having spoken out against some aspects of veganism in the past, it wasn’t really that surprising from Morgan to show disapproval for the vegan sausage roll.

Because of this, Greggs were more than prepared for him to butt in with his opinion – but they had the perfect reply ready to go.

Responding to his insults, the Greggs Official Twitter account tweeted:

Oh hello Piers, we’ve been expecting you.

As well as the delicious pastries they offer, Greggs’ banter is one of the main reasons they’re up there as a highlight of what the UK has to offer.

The response was met with a lot of praise from appreciative Twitter users, with some saying they planned to go and buy a vegan sausage roll simply to spite Morgan.

The presenter must have recognised he’d been bested by the bakery, so changed track to bring up another argument – no doubt in an attempt to ruffle more feathers with his controversial sarcasm.

He tweeted:

Isn’t it time you changed your name to something more gender-fluid & less toxically masculine?

I look forward to the day Morgan retires from social media; I think the world will be a much happier place!
