If you’re the kind of person who likes the idea of a grapefruit-sized ball of Nutella and vanilla fried ice cream adorned with crushed Maltesers you’re in for a treat.
Sydney-based café ‘Piccolo Me’s’ latest dessert – the ‘Fried Maltella’, is, to put it simply, a delicious sphere of magic.
Having sampled a slightly smaller version, Mashable Australia spoke to co-founder Roy El Hachem about their experience:
I actually did that one about two years ago. With the new one, I thought I’ve gotta do something different, so why don’t I just push the boundary and see how far I can go?
So I did, and when that happened I was like – Wow, I actually made it!
When the culinary pioneer first experimented with the idea it took two full days for the ice cream to set before it was ready to be fried.

As a result, the super-sized dessert will be a limited release only. Rumour has it the monster pud will hit the Macquarie University store in Sydney on Monday 25th January for just one week.
“We’ve got about 100 ready to go, we started making them on the weekend,” said Roy.
The Fried Maltella looks sure to be a hit as it rides the current ‘Nutella wave’ washing over Australia and Roy admits he has been well and truly caught in the undertow.
He told Mashable Australia:
My love for Nutella started a few years ago actually. We were one of the first cafés to ride the Nutella wave, but now it’s everywhere – anything you can put it on, you put it on.
Yes you do.
