KFC is a trend-setting fast food giant – so of course it doesn’t need to follow the crowd.
Just take a look at the new KFC Double Down – an innovative burger which shuns the norm, replacing the bread bun with actual slices of chicken and takes lessons from no man.
Obviously, the fact the foodie trend-setters don’t need to follow what’s trending because they’re too busy inventing the next big chicken thing, translates into a very vanguard online presence.

KFC doesn’t need your two-cents on Twitter. The colonel doesn’t need cute cat videos or dogs incapable of catching balls.
The chicken magnates don’t need to follow the emotional roller-coaster of rage and rejection offered in the outpouring of millions of 140-character statements everyday.
Actually, they only follow 11 people on the social media platform – the elite of Twitter – and it’s for the best reason.

In a brilliant, yet subtle homage to KFC’s famous 11-ingredient crispy chicken recipe, it turns out KFC’s Twitter account only follows five spices and six herbs.
The key to the delicious golden brown chicken has been a closely guarded secret since the 1940s but the famous blend of herbs and spices was apparently found in an old scrap book belonging to one of the Colonel’s relatives.
The official recipe is apparently locked away in a vault to keep it out of the hands of competitors and only shown to those who need to know it, kind of like Voldemort’s horcruxes, only delicious.
In fact, Colonel Sanders was so paranoid about protecting his secrets he planned on setting up two companies, both with half the recipe so no one would ever have access to the full recipe.
However, the secret blend of spices may have been exposed to the world thanks to Sanders’ nephew, Joe Ledington, who discovered a scrapbook which belonged to Claudia Sanders, the Colonel’s second wife.
Inside the book they discovered a handwritten note with the recipe, alongside Claudia’s will.
When asked if he believed it was really the Colonel’s recipe Joe said:
Yeah, I do. I don’t want to get in an argument with [KFC[KFC’s parent company]Brands about it but I’m pretty sure that it’s pretty close to the original.
Yum! Brands on the other hand have denied it’s the real KFC recipe, so they won’t mind us publishing it…
