2016 has seen many world-changing events, but none have shaken our foundations like the changes we’ve witnessed in the confectionery industry.

After TobleroneGate caused outrage, Nestle scientists have now announced they are planning to make changes to the KitKat too.

But fear not; these changes are for your own good.

Nestle have discovered a way to almost half the amount of sugar in their chocolate and hope to implement their healthier recipe across all brands by 2018, including KitKat and Nesquik.

That means more chocolate for about 40 per cent less of your daily recommended intake of sugary substances.

According to Nestle’s Chief Technology Officer Stefan Catsicas:

We want people to get used to a different taste, a taste that would be more natural.

Amid pressure from world health organisations on food manufacturers to produce healthier products, Catsicas said, ‘We really want to be the drivers of the solution.’

Personally, I welcome the change if it means I get to enjoy my break with the same great taste and a little less food guilt.
