Millennials Are Too Lazy To Eat Cereal, Apparently

It’s fair to say our breakfast habits have changed quite a fair bit over the years.

We like to start the day with stuff  that’s generally good for us (unless we are hanging, then fry-up it is), like blended juices, drinkable yoghurt and avocado on toast (sorry, but I still don’t think that’s breakfast), but not before we’ve posted it to Instagram – obviously.

This isn’t a lot of effort, but do you know what it is? Making cereal and then having to wash up the bowl. That’s according to a new report from the New York Times anyway.

Cereal looks like it’s dying a soggy death and apparently it’s because us millennials don’t think of it as a solid breakfast option anymore as it’s just a bit too inconvenient. Riiight.

The New York Times reports:

Almost 40 percent of the millennials surveyed by Mintel for its 2015 report said cereal was an inconvenient breakfast choice because they had to clean up after eating it.

Wait, what? So you’re telling me it’s too much effort? What is this madness? Yeah, it’s a bit of a chore to scrape of those dried cereal flakes granted but it could be a lot worse.

Before you think cereal will soon be coming off our shelves though, don’t worry, we doubt it will disappear any time soon. It just won’t be your usual breakfast option and will be marketed more as a fun treat, with insane toppings. Like this:

Well at least you wouldn’t have to wash up the bowl that way.
