KFC’s extremely popular Double Down burger is going to make a welcome return to UK restaurants next week.
The standard for chicken burgers was raised the second KFC presented us with their Double Down burger.
And I think it’s safe to say there’ll be plenty of people making exceptions in their summer diets in honour of the glorious creation making a comeback!
If you don’t know what the Double Down is, it’s sizzling bacon, Monterey Jack cheese and tangy BBQ sauce, sandwiched between two herbs-and-spices covered chicken breasts (instead of bread).
The burger was originally available in the UK towards the end of last year, when the company announced in October they’d be introducing it to their restaurants for just six weeks.
After that, they took it off the menu and saddened the tastebuds of people all over the UK.
Now, the revolutionary, award-winning Double Down makes its long-awaited return to the menu on Monday (July 2).
Praise. The. Lord!
While this is all very good news, it does come with a downside… The Double Down will only be available in restaurants for 21 days, so if you’re wanting one, there’s only a few weeks to get your hands on one.
KFC revealed one Double Down was sold every second at its peak, with more than 2.5 million Double Downs sold in the six weeks it was available – in turn rocketing the creation to the fastest selling KFC burger of all time.
Last year, the burger was most popular with the south east of England, with nearly ‘half a million burgers sold in this area alone’. Good going, guys.
The KFC restaurant in Plymouth Crown Hill holds the record for opening week sales, with nearly 2,500 burgers eaten in the first week, that’s just over 36 every hour!
KFC have been teasing customers about the return of the Double Down on Twitter recently.
They’ve been tagging Double Down-lovers and dropping some serious hints, letting them know they might be able to get their hands on one in July.

The restaurant went on to release the details of the chicken masterpiece’s comeback.
A KFC spokesperson said:
You spoke, and we listened. We were inundated with thousands of tweets demanding the Double Down return to the UK, so there was only one thing we could do.
For just 21 days, we’re bringing it back to restaurants across the UK and Ireland, inviting Double Down fans old and new to revel in its legendary breadless glory.
Fans are extremely excited about the Double Down’s return, and are already planning on making it their World Cup-watching food of choice.
One excited customer wrote:

The World Cup AND the Double Down.
I am being well and truly f*cking spoilt.
The Double Down will be available from July 2, until July 22, with prices starting from £4.79, or £5.79 with fries and a drink.
The World Cup and the Double Down comeback, what a treat for the nation.
