In recent years takeaways have become part of the fabric of the nation’s lifestyle – ranging from pizza to curry to fried chicken – our love of fast food cannot be satiated fast enough.
So much so, the UK even has its own award ceremony to crown the ‘Best Takeaway’ of all.
There are twelve top takeaways from across the country, but the ultimate winner is… Chicken George in Luton, reports The Mirror.
The chicken shop set up by an ex-KFC employee saw off competition from a crazy 26,000 takeaways from around Britain, winning itself £6,000 with it’s ‘exceptional food.’
It wowed judges with their use of local ingredients and a heart-warming scheme giving out free chicken to pensioners after their bingo evenings as well as ‘supporting local sports teams’ and homeless charities.
Judges at the surprisingly glitzy awards included celebrity chef Ainsley Harriott, Dragon’s Den entrepreneur Sarah Willingham and host, comedian Rob Brydon.
Ainsley Harriott said:
When you start looking at all the various takeaways nominated across the country you think: ‘Hold on, they’re all brilliant,’ but there can only be one winner.
So, it’s important to consider what they’re doing to help the wider community, if they’re training and supporting staff and if they’re invested in growing their business.
Chicken George is a true standout on all these fronts – not to mention that their food is delicious!
