Enter the new caramel M&M.

And it won’t just be candy flavoured, no – Mars has stepped up their game and introduced a caramel-filled M&M.

It looks a little something like this:

The new treats are slightly larger than the original and feature a soft caramel center covered in milk chocolate, finished off with a crunchy candy coating, the company said in a press release.

And it wasn’t easy to make. It took years for Mars to develop the tech required to fill M&M’s with caramel, with a team of engineers having developed brand new machinery just to get the job done.

Hank Izzo, Vice President of Research and Development at Mars Chocolate, told CNN Money:

It was a big technological challenge for us. We never before had a M&M lentil with a true soft center, so we had to figure out how to not make the chocolate too sticky or too soft that it could collapse.

And people are excited, to say the least:

For those of you wanting to crack open a bag or 10 of these bad boys, you’ll have to wait until the official release date in May 2017.

However, those who have already been sent early test packages have said they’re amazing.

But the big question remains: Will the new caramel flavour ever top crispy M&M’s?
