Have you ever noticed that your McDonald’s chicken nuggets come in different shapes?

While you’re probably too busy stuffing your face with the breaded chicken goodness, before consuming your weight in chips and washing it all down with a strawberry milkshake, I can confirm each McDonald’s chicken nugget you’ve scoffed falls into one of four designs.

There’s the round blob, the diamond-shaped one, the miscellaneous dinosaur and the magic bean-shaped one.

According to the McDonald’s dictat, my interpretation is a little too left field.

They, instead, refer to the four shapes of nugget as the ball, the bell, the bone (or bow-tie) and the boot.

Apparently each perfectly formed nugget of culinary joy is designed to create ‘the perfect equilibrium of dip-ability and fun’, according to this YouTube video from McDonald’s Canada.

Outlining the process of making a delicious nugget, the video states:

In the forming room, the blended chicken meat will be portioned into the four Chicken McNugget shapes: the ball, the bell, the boot and the bow-tie and then pressed out with a rolling cookie cutter.

Not only does this ensure cooking times will be the same for each slice of meat, the fast food chain added, ‘Our Chicken McNuggets are shaped uniquely for kids and kids at heart – it makes dipping more fun.’
