Sometimes a particular type of food is needed after an evening on the sauce, and nothing can block your path as you charge towards your grease slathered, salty desires.

Alex Bowen from South Carolina, found himself on such a mission after a few scoops, heading on over to a branch of Waffle House in pursuit of some southern breakfast food.

However, when he arrived there was nobody around to serve him, with one employee dozing away in the corner.

Using the sort of initiative others would perhaps be wary of using, Alex hopped right on over the counter and began cooking up some grub for himself.

Firing up the grill, Alex served himself a ‘double Texas bacon cheesesteak melt with extra pickles’, sharing pictures of his culinary antics on Facebook.

Despite his sozzled state, Alex made sure to clean up after himself and returned the next day to pay for his meal.

Sharing pics of himself posing in the restaurant kitchen, Alex informed his Facebook friends:

Couldn’t sleep so I went to waffle house….guess what…everyone on shift was asleep.

Speaking with WISTV, Alex revealed:

Got hot on the grill with a double Texas bacon cheesesteak melt with extra pickles.

When I was done I cleaned the grill, collected my ill-gotten sandwich and rolled on out … I give all the credit to my old friend vodka. I wouldn’t normally have done that.

He added:

[I] guess old Waffle House [is] just gonna have to take the ‘L’ on that one.

The Waffle House later released the following statement:

Our local Division Manager has spoken to Alex and apologized. For safety reasons, our customers should never have to go behind the counter.

Rather they should get a quality experience delivered by friendly associates. We are reviewing this incident and will take appropriate disciplinary action.

Oops. What an unfortunate night to fall asleep on the job…
