Wetherspoons. The land of hope and glory. The place where dreams of cheap pints and burgers come true.
It is a pub chain that we all know and love and so the news that they are opening an 11,000 square foot ‘super pub’ on the beach is pretty huge.
The new Royal Victoria Pavilion is set to be housed in a former seafront casino and dance hall that has been empty since 2008 in Ramsgate, Kent.
The new pub will be Wetherspoons’ biggest one yet and it might even be the largest one in the UK although this is yet to be verified.
Costing £4 million, a lot of the Grade II-listed building’s original features such as its circular windows and high ceiling are going to be restored.
It will be rather grand looking with elegant terraces that will overlook the seafront in addition to an enormous, magnificent staircase.
Wetherspoons chief executive John Hutson told KentLive:
We are looking forward to opening our new pub in Ramsgate.
The former Pavilion is an iconic site in the town and we will be restoring it to its former beauty and making sure that it once again plays an important part in the town.
We are confident that people in the town will welcome the new pub and hopefully it will act as a catalyst for other businesses to invest in the area.
We believe the new pub will be popular with a wide range of people.
As if cheap pints wasn’t good enough news for the locals, the new pub will also create 150 jobs.
The Royal Victorian Pavilion is set to open August 29.
