A New Pokemon Mobile Game Is Coming

The Pokemon Company is hiring a game designer to start work on a new mobile title of some kind. One we can assume is a Pokemon title because… well, they’re the Pokemon Company.

Earlier this week the Pokemon Company posted a job listing for a game designer on its US website. While it didn’t really dive into specifics too much, the listing did confirm that it was to work on an upcoming mobile game.

The listing read:

The Principal Game Designer will work within a team of designers, engineers, artists, producers, and tester to create an upcoming mobile game. We are looking for a creative individual that not only understands the secret sauce to fun games but also can communicate that vision to others. This candidate will spend a lot of time coordinating with both Studio leadership and individual contributors and must have fantastic people skills.

What’s interesting is that there doesn’t seem to be a mention of what developer will actually be working on this mobile title. The Pokemon Company tends to handle marketing, distribution, and brand management, though the job listing very much implies it’ll be working on this new game itself.

As such, I wouldn’t expect whatever this new game is to be the groundbreaking mobile RPG style Pokemon game fans have been expecting. The odds are that it’ll probably something small. Cool, but small.

Of course if it does turn out to be a remake of Diamond & Pearl for mobile devices, I will happily eat my words.

The next big Pokemon release will be eighth generation of “core” games. They’re expected to launch on Nintendo Switch this year, but what will they be called? Up and DownRight and Wrong? Chalk and Cheese?

I can’t wait to find out for sure.
