The excellent first-person indie adventure game Firewatch is headed for the big-screen, as developer Campo Santo has reached a deal with Hollywood production company Good Universe.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, both companies are working on ‘projects that can bridge both the video game and feature film worlds.’

The first of these projects will be the movie adaption of Firewatch, which came out back in February on PC and PlayStation 4, before more recently coming to Xbox.

It was Campo Santo’s first title and something of home run – the game was well received by the majority of fans and critics.

To give away too much regarding the story of Firewatch would be to ruin it for those who haven’t played it yet, but I can say that it sees players hiking through 1989 Wyoming as they take on the role of a National Forest fire lookout.

Beyond that, it’s just really fucking good – you should seriously play it.

The videogame featured the voices of Cissy Jones (The Walking Dead) and Rich Sommer (Mad Men), though it’s not yet clear if these actors will reprise their roles for the movie, or if they’ll go down a different route.

Obviously it’s very early days for the Firewatch movie, as we also don’t have a word yet on a director or release date.

Campo Santo founder Sean Vanaman told THR:

When we met Good Universe we were floored by how they recognize, cultivate, and produce incredible stories. It’s rare you meet another group that shares so many of your values and makes the process of creating things even more exciting. We can’t wait to see what we make together.

Nothing more is known just yet regarding the other projects the two companies have planned beyond Firewatch – we’ll just have to wait and see how that goes.
