Rarely has the death of a franchise been so public and so brutal as that of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. In a rare act of acknowledgement of its shitness, publishers Activision have announced free DLC for all.
Gaming site The Gaming Whores initially contacted Activision to request a copy of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 to see if it was as horrifying as everybody was reporting, but got a full statement from the publishers for their efforts.

The statement reads:
We are aware of the issues that players have experienced following the launch of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 and are working with the developer to address these so that we can continue to improve the gameplay experience for all of the Tony Hawk fans who have known and loved this franchise for more than 16 years.
The core of the game is present on the disc and playable without downloading the patch. The patch does contain tweaks that are needed to fully integrate dedicated server support, which is needed if the player is connected to the Internet since the game is always online. The patch also gives the players additional content as well as improved stability and overall experience.
It’s unlikely that the PR statement will be able to fix the franchises’ damaged reputation, and it’s highly doubtful they’re going to shift more copies with the patch. Unfortunately for Activision, the damage has been done.
If for some reason you fancy buying Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5, it is available now on Playstation 4, Xbox One, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.
