FoxNext Games, D3 Go, and Rival Games have finally announced the long-rumoured Alien: Blackout, although it’s probably not exactly what you were hoping for.
Many assumed Blackout would be a console sequel to the excellent survival horror Alien: Isolation, but it turns out the latest game set in the sci-fi universe is a mobile title that follows Amanda Ripley, the protagonist of Isolation.
D3 Go’s website reads:
The terror of Alien is brought to life in Alien: Blackout. Try to stay alive while trapped aboard a crippled Weyland-Yutani space station carrying a deadly Xenomorph as it tirelessly hunts you and the crew. Outsmart the perfect hunter by making perilous choices. Players must rely on the damaged controls of the space station or risk sacrificing crew members to avoid deadly contact, permanently altering the outcome of the game.
Players must guide Ripley’s Crew through seven levels of increasingly challenging tasks, including managing limited power to operate maps, surveillance cameras, and other tools that will help you avoid becoming alien food.
Release date and prices for Alien: Blackout have yet to be confirmed, but it is coming to iOS and Android devices in 2019. It’s looking like Blackout is a big part of the Alien related property Fox has recently been teasing on Twitter, meaning we can probably put our dreams of a proper Isolation sequel to bed for now.
While I don’t have any issue with mobile games, it is a shame we aren’t getting a follow up to Isolation any time soon. That game really was incredible.
