2018 is finally over, and as the boozy excess of the festive season finally wears off, Amazon has revealed which games sold best in the year that never ended.
The list has a couple of nice surprises, as Super Smash Bros Ultimate sits comfortably at the top spot – a doubly impressive feat when you consider the Switch game only launched in December.
The PlayStation 4 version of Red Dead Redemption 2 takes second place, although it’s been noted if those numbers were combined with the Xbox One version of the game, it would have likely taken the top spot.
Super Mario Party comes in third, followed by Marvel’s Spider-Man, and Mario Kart 8, which is still doing impressive numbers despite the fact it launched during the Switch’s first year.
The top 10 best selling games on Amazon are as follows:
Super Smash Bros Ultimate
Red Dead Redemption 2 (PS4)
Super Mario Party
Marvel’s Spider-Man
Mario Kart 8
Super Mario Odyssey
Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu
Call of Duty Black Ops 4 (PS4)
God of War
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
If there’s one thing we can take away from this list, it’s that people really like buying their Switch games from Amazon.
Six of the top 10 are Switch exclusives, and the likes of Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart 8, and Breath of the Wild were all released in 2017.
I’m not sure what this says about the quality of games released in 2018… Probably nothing. I think all this means is that lots of people picked up Switches for Christmas 2018.
