Assassin’s Creed Movie Might Already Have A Sequel Greenlit

The Assassin’s Creed movie isn’t even out until December 21, but apparently a sequel is already in the works – with Michael Fassbender set to reprise his leading role. Either the first one is shaping up really well, or the studio is ridiculously overconfident.

The Tracking Board reports that the New Regency studio has already signed a deal with producer Jean-Julien Baronnet from Ubisoft Motion Pictures and pre-production is underway. Matt Phelps will oversee for Ubisoft, while Pam Abdy will do the same for New Regency.

That’s all The Tracking Board has at the moment. No word on a release window, or an official title (although I like Assassin’s Creed 2: Electric Boogaloo).

We also don’t know whether or not Fassbender’s co-stars from the first film will be returning for the sequel, but if it rakes in enough cash I’m sure they could be tempted back.

Again, bear in mind that this is an unconfirmed report, so it could turn out to be wrong. Even if this does all turn out to be true, there’s every chance the first film could do shit and the studio pulls the plug on the sequel *cough* Fantastic 4 *cough*.

Still, from the few images we’ve seen so far (and the positive fan reaction that came with them) there’s every chance that Assassin’s Creed could turn out to be a genuinely good videogame film – but there is a  small chance that once that finally happens, the universe will implode.
