Bad News For PS Plus Subscribers In Canada And The US

By :

Sony has announced a hike in price for PS Plus subscribers in the US and Canada, coming into effect September 22.

We’ll be seeing an increase of $50 up to $60 for the annual subscription in the US, and from $50 CAD to $70 CAD in Canada, while the three month plan goes from $18 to $25 in the US and $18 CAD to $30 in Canada.

The single month price will remain the same in the US ($10), but Canada will see a slight increase of $12 up from $10.

The bad news came from PlayStation Blog itself:

This marks the first time that PS Plus membership prices will increase in the U.S. and Canada since the launch of the service in 2010. The new pricing reflects the current market conditions while enabling us to continue providing exceptional value to our members. As a member, you will continue to enjoy the benefits and features that enable shared experiences, such as online multiplayer, free games, and exclusive discounts. You will also continue to get exclusive benefits such as online game save storage and discounts across the PlayStation digital services.

If you renew your subscription before September 22, you’ll be charged the current prices. However, if you’re now planning on cancelling, be sure to do so before that date.

A PS Plus subscription is, of course, required to play certain PlayStation games online, and also grants a number of monthly free games.

The European PlayStation Blog hasn’t yet indicated prices will rise in Europe, and there’s no reason to believe that have plans to do so for the time being.
