Seriously, is there anyone out there who isn’t pushing to have their favourite characters appear in Mortal Kombat 11 at this point? It’s not bloody Super Smash Bros, people can’t just pop by for quick rough and tumble with Mario and leave again.
Mortal Kombat is the big leagues, man. You step into that ring and you get your spine ripped out and fed to you by a reanimated corpse. That hasn’t stopped fans from campaigning to see everyone from DOOMguy, to Shaggy and the Mars Opportunity Rover in the latest game though.
The latest character request has come from none other than Hideki Kamiya, the director behind Platinum Games’ sublime bullet hell brawler Bayonetta. He’d very much like to see Bayonetta bring her unique blend of gunplay and hair-based witchcraft to NetherRealm’s impending fighting game.
The director tweeted out his request, but I’m not entirely sure he’s being serious. Then again, I didn’t think the whole Shaggy thing was serious till I took a look at the petition, so what the hell do I know?
Even if Kamiya and NetherRealm want it, this is one I really don’t see happening. Bayonetta has essentially morphed into a Nintendo franchise after the company picked up the exclusive rights to Bayonetta 2 and the in-development Bayonetta 3.
She’s even appeared in the last two Super Smash Bros games as a playable fighter, so I don’t see the House of Mario being entirely cool with her showing up in a gorefest like Mortal Kombat 11.
Then again, MK 11 is coming to Nintendo Switch, so for all I know they could be planning throw Pikachu into the fray to get scalped by Sub Zero or something.
