The Writers Guild of America is celebrating some of the very best video game writing of 2018, and have now announced the nominees for ‘Outstanding Achievement In Video Game Writing’.

You won’t be surprised to learn story-driven hits like Spider-Man and God of War have made the cut.

Telltale is also getting some well-deserved love thanks to the studio’s work on its second season of Batman.

In order to qualify, the games need to have been released between December 1 2017, and December 31 2018, and feature on screen writing credits.

The credited writers also need to be members of the WGA Videogame Writers Caucus, so if you were expecting to see certain titles (cough, Celeste, cough), that’s probably why they didn’t make the cut.

The five nominees are:

• Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

• Batman: The Enemy Within, Episode 5- Same Stitch

• God of War

• Marvel’s Spider-Man

• Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire

The winner will be decided by a panel made up of Caucus members and other Writers Guild members who are active in video game writing. The announcement will be made during the 2019 Writers Guild Awards on February 17.

The excellent PS4 exclusive Horizon Zero Dawn took home the prize last year, after going up against the likes of Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow and Madden 18.
