Pretty shitty news for anybody holding out to order their Pip-Boy Edition of Fallout 4, as Bethesda have announced the company making them literally can’t make any more.
The factory that make the Collector’s Edition are reportedly too busy to make any more. This obviously begs the question of ‘what could they possibly be doing that’s more important?’ According to Bethesda Marketing Vice President Pete Hines, the factory were happy to shift other work around to free up time for the awesome gadget, but enough was enough and they simply had to move on.
Hines told Gamespot at QuakeCon last weekend:
We reached a point where we’d go back to the factories and they were like, ‘guys, this is it, sorry. This is as long as we can run the lines and as many of them as we can make.’ We’d go back to [the factories] and say, ‘Demand for this is insane, we’ve got to make more,’ and they’d move other projects off or shift stuff to other factories and it just came to [them telling Bethesda], ‘Final answer: sorry, this is as many as we can make.’
Bethesda have said those who pre-ordered the Collector’s Edition already will still get their items, but that every single Pip-Boy in existence now has an owner.
The Pip-Boy essentially allows a smartphone to be used like a menu screen as an interactive add-on to the main game. Originally retailing at £100, you can bet now there’re stupidly rare the price is going to soar. Congratulations to those with the foresight to buy one while you had the chance. You lucky bastards.
