Bethesda lord and saviour Todd Howard has admitted that Fallout 4 started life as a Skyrim port on the Xbox One.

Speaking with Game Informer, Howard said that porting the Elder Scrolls V was a technical exercise to get the team used to working with current-gen software. He said “The first thing we did was port Skyrim to Xbox One.” before apparently quickly blurting out “Don’t get your hopes up yet.”

Skyrim on Xbox One and Playstation 4 confirmed? Well not exactly. Especially since there are rumours that the past-gen favourite could be coming to Xbox One’s backwards compatibility feature.

Howard also said that work on Fallout 4 started soon after Skyrim was complete, and they worked closely with Microsoft and Sony on the as-yet unreleased Xbox One and Playstation 4. Despite having insider knowledge of the consoles, Bethesda didn’t want to rush Fallout 4 by making it a launch title like Morrowind and Oblivion.

Bethesda have plans to bring a host of DLC to Fallout 4, so as Todd said, it’s best not to get too excited.
