Would you believe that Black Ops 4 – the latest Call of Duty – is making an awful lot of money? I’m flabbergasted, personally.
Activision has announced that the latest CoD instalment from Treyarch had a very strong first weekend, making $500 million in its first three days over digital and retail. To compare, the divisive Black Ops 3 made a measly $650 million in its first five days.
Chump change, I’m sure we can all agree.
Black Ops 4 has been incredibly well received by the majority of fans and critics alike, with many praising the polished battle royale mode and much more in-depth zombies experience. In our own review, we said it was the best Call of Duty in years.
It seems that Black Ops 4 is currently tied with last year’s WWII in terms of sales over this initial three day period. Both games sold almost twice as much as 2016’s Infinite Warfare.
Meanwhile, Activision has also claimed that the total number of players over the first three days has set a new franchise record. We can probably put this down to Treyarch creating a genuinely great battle royale mode that’s managed to capitalise on the craze at its peak.
Oh, and it looks like Black Ops 4 is also getting more Twitch views than any other CoD game in history, all of which is great news for Treyarch, given all the work they’ve put into innovating the franchise over the years.
In fact, you can watch a documentary about that very subject below, if you fancy it. Love a shameless plug, me.
As if that wasn’t enough, it turns out that Black Ops 4 has set a global, new day one record on the PlayStation Store for digital full game sales, and is also the best selling Activision Xbox One digital game on day one. Great work all round.
