It’s fair to say that there was a lot riding on the latest Call of Duty, and Black Ops 4 seems to have delivered. It was the best selling game of October 2018 in North America, beating out Red Dead Redemption 2.
October was an extremely busy month for releases, with Call of Duty, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey all battling it out for top spot.
It’s probably worth noting that Black Ops 4 launched on October 12, whereas Red Dead Redemption 2 landed towards the very end of the month, but that doesn’t make Treyarch’s victory any less impressive, especially since its launch month dollar sales are the eighth highest on record since NPD began tracking game sales in 1995
It shouldn’t be that surprising that the latest Call of Duty came out on top in October, especially since early reports indicated that the game was off to a very strong start, making an incredible making $500 million in its first three days over digital and retail.
Take a look at the top 10 best selling games of October 2018 below:
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
- Red Dead Redemption 2
- Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
- NBA 2K19
- Super Mario Party
- Soul Calibur 6
- FIFA 19
- Marvel’s Spider-Man
- Madden NFL19
- WWE 2K19
It was a strong month for sales overall, with IGN reporting that dollar sales in the industry soared past $1.55 billion USD. Again, this is the highest on record for October since the NPD began tracking in 1995.
With Black Ops 4 proving such a massive success – thanks in no small part to the extremely well received Blackout battle royale mode – it’s likely the battle royale craze won’t be leaving the minds of AAA publishers any time soon.
