In an interview with Eurogamer, director Jeff Kaplan revealed that the beloved gunslinger McCree will soon to be taking a trip to the nerf clinic.
McCree’s clip emptying fan attack will now deal a fair bit less damage so that it’s not as effective against tank class characters.
Kaplan explained:
What we’re looking at right now is his fan the hammer damage. We’re going to reduce it. The goal there is to make it so that McCree can still use his combo that we love, which is the flashbang and fan the hammer on somebody like Tracer. McCree should absolutely kill that Tracer.
Kaplan went on to say that McCree can currently “absolutely shred” tanks, and described the fan attack as a bit of a win button.
With that said, Kaplan clarified that McCree will still be able to take on tanks:
If he times everything perfectly and gets every single shot off, he’s got a shot against a tank, but it’s not the instant ‘I win’ button that it is right now.
The amount of damage McCree can dish out is currently causing a fair bit of unrest in the Overwatch community, and Blizzard want their players to feel like these problems get taken care of in a timely manner – as such, the update should be available soon.
Blizzard are also exploring what they can do to tweak D.Va, but that the changes required with her are less obvious.
Kaplan said:
Obviously her damage has come into question from a lot of people. You have to be really close to do effective damage with D.Va and we might look at that. We might also look at her survivability. A lot of time, D.Va can get herself into situations where she’s a tank and it feels like she should be there, but then she gets knocked out of that mech so quickly.
Overwatch launched at the end of May for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and has already become Blizzard’s best selling console game ever.
