If anyone out there needed proof that people are really into the excellent From Software title Bloodborne, then they need only look at how this new board game based on the PS4 exclusive has destroyed its Kickstarter target.
The campaign to create a tabletop board game on the gothic Souls-like flew towards its target at alarming speed. In under 20 minutes, it crushed its £155,000 goal. The project currently has 18 days of funding left, and sits at over £1.3 million. I think it’s safe this will be getting made after all, then.
Bloodborne: The Board Game has been designed by Michael Shinall and Eric M. Lang and will see players exploring the the town of Yharnam to fight monsters and attempt to survive the night. It sounds great, but I’m slightly annoyed they didn’t call it Bloodboard.
Here’s the official description, via the Kickstarter page:
Bloodborne: The Board Game is a dark and challenging action game designed by Michael Shinall and Eric M. Lang, where 1 to 4 Hunters must explore the town of Yharnam and fight their way through beasts, monsters and frenzied townsfolk to survive the night and uncover the source of the madness that consumes it. Based on the award-winning Bloodborne video game by Sony Interactive Entertainment, the board game brings the beloved title to life with amazing miniatures!
The project already has over 19,000 backers and is currently awaiting “licensor approval.” It joins video games like The Witcher 3, Dark Souls, and Resident Evil in a long line of slick looking board game adaptations. Funnily enough, the Dark Souls board game was also a Kickstarter project that smashed its goal in record time.
The estimated delivery date for Bloodborne: The Board Game is currently May 2020, but the developers have stressed that this could change as they work through the demands of shipping to international backers, and other such considerations.
Hopefully the demand for this board game encourages Sony and From Software to speed up a little bit on making Bloodborne 2 a reality for the PlayStation 5.
