Borderlands 3 Main Story Length Confirmed

The last full Borderlands game was released way back in 2014, so it’s safe to say that fans of the loot shooter franchise are hoping to be able to really sink their teeth into Borderlands 3 when it launches in September.

The good news is that it sounds like the upcoming game will offer plenty of opportunity to do just that. Borderlands 3 creative director Paul Sage confirmed to PC Gamer that it’ll take at least 30 hours to get through the game – and that’s if you really rush.

Sage said:

If you beeline it through, and I mean beelining it through, it might take you 30 hours to complete the main story.

That puts it pretty much in line with Borderlands 2’s campaign, which also takes around 30 hours to get through. But if you consider all the side missions, multiplayer action, secrets, harder difficulties, new game plus, various classes to experiment with, and the insane amount of weapons to track down and play with, I’d imagine that number rises considerably.

According to How Long To Beat, the average time for Borderlands 2 with the campaign plus extras is 52 hours, with proper completion recording an average time of 115 hours.

One of the things Gearbox seems keen for us to know is that Borderlands 3 is set to the biggest, most ambitious Borderlands yet, with multiple planets to explore and a billion guns to mess around with, so Whichever way you slice it, it looks like Borderlands 3 is going to offer an awful lot of game for us to play.

This follows on from the news that Borderlands 3 will be getting story DLC somewhere down the line, as well as cosmetic DLC such as skins and heads, though Gearbox was quick to point out that these cosmetic in-game purchases don’t mean that the game will have loot boxes or any kind of premium currency.

Producer Chris Brock told Games Industry:

When we say ‘no microtransactions,’ what we’re really trying to say is that we’re not trying to nickel and dime people. We’ll probably make content after launch that we will sell, but we also don’t intend to take what Borderlands was and then chop it up into chunks and sell it.

Borderlands 3 is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on September 13. It’ll be releasing on PC as an epic store exclusive, which hasn’t gone down too well with the fans, apparently.
