For the past 20 years Pokemon fans have watched one plucky trainer struggle to achieve their ultimate goal. They’d often come tantalisingly close, only to have it all snatched away at the last minute.
I’m not talking about Ash Ketchum, to be clear. That loser couldn’t battle his way out of a paper bag. I am of course referring to Brock, the former Pewter City Gym Leader and wannabe Lothario of the Pokemon world.
Anyone who enjoyed the Pokemon anime – especially in the early days – will no doubt remember that Brock spent the vast majority of his travels with Ash looking for love.
Alas, his dogged pursuit for the affections of the likes of trained professionals like Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny were constantly in vain. For two long decades, it seemed that Brock was about as likely to find love as Ash was to win a Pokemon League.
But no more. The latest development in the Pokemon Sun & Moon series is that Brock might finally have met the girl of his dreams, which is huge news for all the women that were sick of being harassed by him.
In a recent episode of the show, Ash’s old chums Brock and Misty made the trip to the tropical Alola region to pay the plucky young trainer a visit. It was here that Brock met Olivia, a fellow rock type trainer.
As it turns out, the two seem pretty into each other. The Pokemon anime doesn’t tend to waste time on love stories, so I don’t imagine this will be a huge plot thread going forward, but it’s nice to know that Brock has found somewhere out there who feels just like him.
There you have it kids, the moral of the story here is that if Brock can find love, anyone can.
