In a recent blog post, Treyarch stated that good mod tools were one of the most frequently requested things from the community, so this year they decided to chuck it in.

Starting in a closed alpha for PC players in March 2016, modders will be able to create their own Black Ops III maps, modes “and more”, though there’s no indication of what “and more” really means. Again, there’s no clue on how many will be able to take part in this alpha, but Treyarch do note that an open beta will be available to all at some point.

There will also be unranked server files allowing people to create their own modded servers, as well as the option for people to actively search out these creations.

In the post, Treyarch were keen to point out that the plan to have mod support could change as time goes on depending on a number of factors, including the success of the alpha. It’s not yet known whether the Xbox One and Playstation 4 versions of the game will be moddable in the future.
