Since time immemorial (CoD 4), Call of Duty has had two sub-series – Modern Warfare and Black Ops. Now, it looks like we could be getting a third.
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare devs Infinity Ward stated in a recent interview with Polygon, that they want to start a new sub-franchise under the Infinite Warfare banner, now that the other two have come to a close.
In the interview, the game’s narrative director Taylor Kurosaki stated that he never had an input on the dev’s previous title, Call of Duty: Ghosts. As such, the former Naughty Dog man wants to put his own stamp onto Infinite Warfare, taking the franchise in an entirely new direction.
He says:
We want to establish our own new sub-franchise, our own new branch of the Call of Duty tree. What we are developing here could certainly support multiple games. We’re trying to develop a very rich world that we’re not even close to exhausting.
He also goes on to liken the jump from Black Ops 3 to Infinite Warfare, as similar to the jump from Call of Duty 3 to Call of Duty 4.
He continues:
I’m sure that the Infinity Ward team felt the same kind of tremendous burden when they went from World War II to modern warfare. It’s an entire world with new weapons, vehicles, AI, under-the-hood stuff. We’re doing the exact same stuff here. This is as much of a sea change.
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare releases on November 4 for PS4, Xbox One and Windows PC. Activision have also released footage of a new CoD:Zombies game which looks… Interesting.
