Call of Duty Mobile has proven to be a massive success in China, and following the news that the Tencent-developed FPS would begin rolling out in the West this week, Activision has shared a ton of new details on the mobile shooter.
While the android beta continues to roll out in select regions, we now also know that the game will be getting an ambitious battle royale mode that’s completely seperate from Black Ops 4’s own Blackout mode – presumably in a bid to compete with other mobile battle royales like Fortnite and PUBG.
While Activision does make it clear that Call of Duty Mobile Battle Royale is supposed to be a different experience from blackout, there are still similar rules, 100 player matches, and options for Solos, Duos, and Squad play. I mean, a battle royale can’t ever really be that different, can it?
Activision explained in a detailed post on its blog:
It’s standalone from other Battle Royale experiences in Call of Duty. So, those familar Call of Duty®:Black Ops 4’s Blackout mode may find some familiarity, but ultimately this experience is unique to Call of Duty: Mobile. So prepare for some thrilling and exciting gameplay on the go as you deploy, scavenge and survive in any way you can.
The new map will feature a smorgasbord of locations from previous Call of Duty titles, including the Modern Warfare series. Players will also get to choose between a first or third-person perspective at the start of each match, while a class system is also being added. There’ll be six at launch, each with their own unique abilities.
In addition, players will have to the chance to change up their loadouts during the debrief section before each game, arming themselves with various weapons, and even having the option to customise their vehicles, knives, wingsuits, and parachutes with unlocked cosmetics.
Call of Duty Mobile will be arriving in the US and Europe in “Summer”, according to Activision, though it’s not clear exactly when in Summer we can expect to see it drop. For now, you can pre-register for the beta over on the game’s Google Play Store page.
