Capcom has reported a decline in both sales and profits after releasing its financial results for the three month period between April 1 to June 30.
Sales for this period were at $104 million – a 24 percent decline in comparison to the same period in 2015. Operating income also fell, leading Capcom to suffer a hefty $6.9 million loss.
Capcom then put the decline in profits down to ‘increased development’ (at least in part).
As for sales, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice for 3DS was selling ‘largely as planned’, which doesn’t sound too reassuring.
The recently released Resident Evil action shooter Umbrella Corps for PlayStation 4 and PC was mentioned in the report as launched, but details on how well it’s done weren’t provided.
You may have noticed a lack of major releases from the company over the past few months, and it did go on to admit that sales were mostly generated through ‘minor titles’.
Still, Capcom has high hopes for Resident Evil 7, and reaffirmed its plan to release major titles in the second half of the fiscal year, which it says generates ‘sizeable sales in December and into the next calendar year’.
Let’s not forget about the planned Resident Evil 2 remake either – that badboy is bound to hoover up unspeakable amounts of cash.
All in all, Capcom seems to be planning big things for the Resident Evil franchise in the latter half of 2016 and beyond. Considering that’s probably one of the company’s biggest sellers, it’ll be interesting to see where they take it.
