CD Projekt RED Reveals Why We Haven’t Seen Much Of Cyberpunk 2077

It’s fair to say that Cyberpunk 2077, the upcoming first-person RPG from the studio behind the sublime The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is one of the most anticipated releases of this generation.

While what we’ve seen of the game so far has been pretty stunning, there’s no getting round the fact that we haven’t actually seen that much of it yet beyond one 50(ish) minute deep dive.

As it turns out, there’s a reason for that. And it’s not because the game is rubbish or barely finished, so don’t worry about that. PlayStation has shared a new video on the development of Cyberpunk in which members of CD Projekt RED discuss the long-in development title.

In it, Miles Tost, one of the game’s level designers, reveals why we haven’t seen that much of the sci-fi adventure over the years. Simply put, the team prefer to show what they’ve got when it’s a completely finished, fully formed concept, rather than teasing out still-gestating ideas that could (and likely do) change and evolve.

He explains:

The reason why you can’t really go out and show everything is because video game development is such an iterative process. What we have now might not be there tomorrow. We’ve had ideas that have died over the years then they’ve been resurrected then they’ve died again and now they’re back.

We sadly still don’t have a release date for Cyberpunk 2077 yet, but we do know that CD Projekt RED is “targeting” a current-gen release. Hopefully we’ll learn more at E3 this year.
