If you fancy yourself a bit of a game tester, you can put your money where your demonic mouth is by signing up to the Doom multiplayer closed alpha.
Bethesda have opened up the registration to the Doom remake’s multiplayer alpha, which isn’t to be confused with the beta test. A beta will be shipped to those who’ve pre-ordered Wolfenstein: New Order on or before October 26.
Bethesda state on the registration page that the alpha is:
…a series of development-driven tests designed to stress test the game’s dedicated server infrastructure in a real-world consumer environment. It is not the beta, a demo, or representative of the final game.
They also go on to detail exactly what will be in the alpha. Participants can expect to try out one map, called Heatwave, in a six vs six team deathmatch. There will be a super powerful ‘Demon Rune’ pickup, that turns your character into a jetpack-wearing, rocket-launcher-wielding demon of death called Revenant.
Another powerful pickup will give the user a Gauss Cannon – a ridiculously powerful cannon capable of killing Revenant with one shot, but limited ammo.
Doom currently has a super vague release of ‘2016’ but will be coming out on PS4, Xbox One and Windows PC.
