With the 25th anniversary of beloved RTS franchise Command & Conquer a mere two years away, EA has confirmed it’s “exploring” the possibility of remaking the original PC games.
EA producer Jim Vessella took to the Command & Conquer subreddit to chat with the fans and gauge interest in the future of the franchise. Naturally, everyone seemed to be on board.
Vesella – who worked on Command & Conquer 3 and Red Alert 3 said:
We recently announced Command & Conquer: Rivals, a mobile game set in the Command & Conquer universe. Following the reveal of Rivals, we heard you loud and clear: the… community also wants to see the franchise return to PC.
It wouldn’t be unfair to suggest that the reveal of mobile title Rivals wasn’t terribly well received. The official announcement trailer currently has 2.7k likes to 59k dislikes. You might say it wasn’t a very… commanding reveal.
You’d think I’d be sorry for that, but I’m not.
Anyway, Vesella revealed that EA is “exploring some exciting ideas” and the publisher “already has the ball rolling” when it comes to celebrating the 25th anniversary of the franchise.
Of course, Command & Conquer released back in 1995, so fans of math will be aware that gives us two years before the 25th anniversary. It’ll probably be a while yet before we hear anything concrete, so keep your ear to the ground. Or don’t. I don’t really care what you do, to be honest.
Vesella signed off by explaining he’s just as into the franchise as we are, and that feedback from the fans will be vital for C&C going forward.
