The team behind the Crysis games – Crytek – have released their dinosaur themed VR demo Back To Dinosaur Island on Steam, and it’s fully compatible with the Oculus Rift.

Developed using the powerful Cry Engine, Back To Dinosaur Island was first shown off at this year’s Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. While it’s been possible to play the game at industry events, this is the first time it’s been openly available to the public.

You play as a baby dinosaur, freshly born from your little dinosaur egg. There isn’t a great deal to do in Back To Dinosaur Island, as the game is mostly meant to show off how VR can make you feel entirely “present” in a game world.

Since its emergence, Back To Dinosaur Island has transformed into Crytek’s newly announced Robinson: The Journey, which we got our first glimpse of during Sony’s Paris Games Week last month. Despite Back To Dinosaur Island being compatible with the Oculus Rift, Robinson: The Journey has been developed in partnership with Playstation VR.

Back To Dinosaur Island is obviously now free on Steam, while Robinson: The Journey hasn’t yet been given a release date.
