Cyberpunk 2077 Could Blow Witcher 3 Out Of The Water, Dev Says

By :

Developer CD Projekt Red has been talking up its new futuristic RPG, Cyberpunk 2077 again. By all accounts, they seem to think it’s gonna blow Witcher 3 away.

Now, I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again happily: Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a fucking incredible game. The sheer scale and scope of the project was monumental, and many (many, many) happy hours were spent scouring its massive world.

Thankfully, the Witcher 3 team seem pretty confident that Cyberpunk 2077 can top it. In an interview with GI.biz, CEO Marcin Iwinski says the massive success of their last game has given them more resources and opportunity to go bigger than they’ve ever gone before.

Iwinski said:

The game will be more ambitious on every single front, in the development and on the marketing side.

Naturally, Iwinksi isn’t the only one at CD Projekt Red who’s been making some bold claims regarding Cyberpunk 2077. Back in March, the team’s own Adam Badowski described their new RPG as  even better, even bigger, and even more revolutionary than Witcher 3.

Cyberpunk 2077 is apparently set in a dark future, where technologies have become both a blessing and a curse. Maybe touch screen phones have finally risen up and taken over humanity with their constant minor annoyances?

Much like Witcher 3, the game promises a non-linear story designed for “mature” players (so expect boobs, blood, and swearing I guess) and is set in the metropolis of Night City. Check out a teaser trailer below.

The fantasy setting of Witcher 3 clearly could not be more different from the Blade Runneresque sci-fi world of Cyberpunk 2077. Props to CD Projekt Red for not resting on their laurels.

Now, let’s just hope they can walk the walk after all this talk.
