Cyberpunk 2077 Will Still Look Amazing On Low-End PCs, Developer Says

Based on what we’ve seen of Cyberpunk 2077 so far, it’s shaping up to be a visually stunning game. While this might give owners of more low-end PCs the fear that their machine won’t be able to run the title, CD Projekt RED’s UI Director Alvin Liu has assured fans the game will look awesome regardless of specs.

In a recent interview with Wccftech (via Tech Radar) Liu spoke a little bit about how the team is working to optimise  Cyberpunk 2077 for consoles and lower-end hardware.

He revealed that CD Projekt RED’s custom engine, the RED Engine, will help to ensure Cyberpunk is a looker no matter what you choose to play it on. That’s not to say it won’t look even better on more expensive, capable PCs of course.

Liu explained:

We have a very custom engine, the RED Engine. And actually, we’re targeting consoles as first-class platforms and it looks amazing there. So obviously, if you spent, you know, $2,000 building your PC rig, it’s going to look better on that. But the graphics are quite amazing for what you’re going to get from Cyberpunk 2077 on consoles and low-end PCs.

The RED Engine is the very same engine that CD Projekt RED used to create the gorgeous, immersive world of The Witcher 3. If they can fit a game like that on Nintendo Switch, I’m inclined to believe they know how to make sure Cyberpunk 2077 looks fantastic on low-end PCs.

While Liu’s comments suggest we could be seeing Cyberpunk 2077 hit PlayStation 5 and Xbox Scarlett in addition to PS4 and Xbox One, we don’t know for sure yet. However, in an interview with VG247 last year, CD Projekt Red president Adam Kiciński did say that Cyberpunk 2077 will be compatible with future gaming technology.

He said:

Next gen hasn’t been announced yet, so we can only speculate. Technology-wise, Cyberpunk is very advanced. Our technology is ready to interface with future generations. The game is developed in such a way that it can use very powerful future equipment.

In the meantime, it’s great to hear that even my sorry excuse for a gaming PC will probably be able to run Cyberpunk 2077 without losing too much of the detail that helps to make it such a handsome game.

Cyberpunk 2077 hits PS4, Xbox One, and PC on April 16 next year. If you can’t wait till then, there’s a slick new mod for Metal Gear Solid V that lets you play as Keanu Reeves’ Johnny Silverhand.
