The currently unnamed studio will be working on a new, unannounced project that I know in my heart and soul can’t be a new Dead Space for a multitude of reasons. I’m sure it’ll be great, whatever it is though.

At 2K, we offer our collective audience a variety of engaging and captivating entertainment experiences. We continually seek opportunities to empower and invest in the right people and ideas. Michael’s unparalleled creative, production, and leadership accolades are well-documented and deserved. We are greatly inspired not only by his passion but the potential for his new studio to complement our existing portfolio and development expertise.

Condrey added that he was both “excited” and “thankful” to have the opportunity to shape a new Silicon Valley studio from the ground up. This new studio will sit alongside Firaxis, Hangar 13, Visual Concepts, and Cat Daddy under the 2K brand.

In addition to leading Visceral Games (RIP) on 2008’s Dead Space, he also co-founded Sledgehammer Games, the studio behind such Call of Duty titles as Modern Warfare 3 and Advanced Warfare.

Hopefully Take-Two and 2K will be encouraging Condrey to pursue the horror genre, since he has such an excellent eye for it. Dead Space is a fondly remembered title, and one whose influence is still felt to this day.

The Resident Evil 2 remake certainly proved that the survival horror genre still has a pretty big market if done properly, so if Condrey can’t give me Dead Space I’ll just as happily take something a lot like it.
