Hideo Kojima continues to tease details regarding Death Stranding, his mysterious new project – and first since leaving Konami.
The Metal Gear Solid creator spoke at the Tokyo Games Show, where he indicated that the enigmatic title will be with us before the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
Of course, rather than just tell us a year, Kojima added:
To go a little further, there is a movie called Akira, and it will be out before the year in which Akira is set.
For anyone that might not know, Akira is set in the year 2019, so by that token we should expect Death Stranding in 2018. Not too long to go, then.
Kojima also revealed during the event that the character played by Norman Reedus will be joined by a female protagonist, and that Walking Dead fans should expect to see a ‘different side’ to Reedus.
When discussing the online element, Kojima teased that it’s a ‘different kind of online play than anything we’ve seen before’, and once again reiterated the idea of ‘strands’ connecting everyone and everything.
Beyond that, Kojima still has yet to announce what game engine Death Stranding will run on, although it’s apparently a ‘well known’ third party engine.
Death Stranding comes to PlayStation 4 and PC, before the year in which Akira is set – though that might be a little too wordy for promotional materials.
