It’s the great question of our time: Will the game that I’m about to drop £50 on force me to pay more to get the full experience?

In increasingly common cases, that question has unfortunately been landing on yes. In an attempt to buck the trend of far too many AAA releases, it has been confirmed by DICE design director Niklas Fegraeus that microtransactions will not in fact be ‘part of the core design of the game’ in Star Wars Battlefront.

In an interview with Gamespot at DICE’s Stockholm studio, Fegraeus outlined the multi-tiered credit system:

The credits that you use to buy things in the game are earned. You play the game, complete challenges, and that’s how you get credits”.

When asked for clarification if credits were earned exclusively through performance, Fegraeus replied:

“Yes, that’s what’s in the game. Absolutely”.

The alarm was raised at the prospect of microtransactions when it was announced that Star Wars Battlefront would have several in-game currency systems – usually a grim sign of their impending inclusion. However as Fegraeus outlined, the different credit systems correspond to different actions in game. Simply playing the game earns you points while completing challenges and “different actions” earn rewards also.

Star Wars Battlefront blasts onto the PS4, Xbox One, and PC on November 19.
