DICE announced a new game called Battlefield 1 last week. Dunno if you saw. It was a pretty quiet, reserved affair to be honest – I don’t think many people noticed.
Ah well, despite the fact that this new WWI shooter managed to slip under everyone’s radar, new details have come to light regarding the game’s campaign.
Lead designer Daniel Berlin shared some new information with GamesBeat, and discussed the game’s overall aim to highlight factors of World War One that folk might not be aware of.
Berlin teased that Battlefield 1’s single player campaign may follow multiple characters, and will focus on different stories and different personalities across the world.
Apparently one of the playable characters will be the Bedouin woman warrior from the announcement trailer (the one on the horse at the start).
Berlin said of their aim to highlight lesser known elements of WWI:
When we set out on this game, we wanted to depict not just the common view of what the war was like. We wanted to challenge some preconceptions. We want to delve into some of the unknowns of WW1. Maybe people don’t know that this person fought or that person fought, that this army was involved. We’re stretching out and bringing all those stories into the game.
I can’t speak for everyone, but my knowledge of World War One isn’t exactly amazing, especially when compared to more recent wars. Just another reason that DICE are really on to something with this setting, I guess – we can all learn as we play.
Battlefield 1 is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on October 21 this year. A beta has also been confirmed for sometime in the next few months.
