DOOM Eternal Gets A Release Date And Has A Level Set In Heaven

Bethesda’s weird and fairly uneventful E3 2019 press conference closed out with an extended look at DOOM Eternal, and id Software’s latest FPS is looking every bit as gory, brutal, and chaotic as we could hope for.

Most of what we saw from the gameplay was pretty unsurprising. Big guns, massive demons, lots of ripping, tearing, and killing – you know, DOOM stuff. One cool surprise was that in DOOM Eternal we’ll be visiting multiple dimensions and planets, including Earth, Hell, and Heaven – a first for the series.

I mean, I don’t think I ever expected to be able to play a DOOM game that actually takes me to Heaven to fight demons. We’re usually so busy in these games clearing out the bowels of hell that it never occurred to me we’d get to a pay a visit to the other side one day.

Here;s the official description for the game’s story – not that you need a reason to kill demons with your bare hands, mind:

DOOM Eternal puts you in control of the DOOM Slayer as you blow apart new and classic demons with powerful weapons in unbelievable and never-before-seen worlds. Experience the ultimate combination of speed and power as you rip and tear your way across dimensions with the next leap in push-forward, first-person combat.

Bethesda also announced that DOOM Eternal will be launching on November 22, so we don’t have long to wait before we’re ripping off arms and shoving grenades into mouths in a smorgasbord of satisfyingly squelchy gore.

We also got brief confirmation of a new multiplayer mode that focuses on tactical play, which you can see below. It’s apparently brutal, and very fast paced – but we won’t learn more about it until Quakecon next month.

For now, we’ll just have to look forward to the prospect of venturing into Heaven to do some incredibly un-heavenly things when DOOM Eternal lands in November.
