The EA Access subscription service is finally coming to PlayStation 4 this Summer, five years after it became available on Xbox One. While we don’t have a specific release date just yet, we’ve been told to expect it in July.
For those that might not have heard of it, EA Access is a monthly subscription service similar to Xbox Game Pass or PlayStation Now, and offers access to a vast library of EA titles, including the majority of Battlefield games, The Sims 4, Dragon Age, Dead Space, Mass Effect, and more.
In addition to free games, EA Access also offers a 10 percent discount on all digital EA games, as well as their expansions and in-game purchases.
Subscribers also get to enjoy early 10 hour trials of some of the publishers biggest games, most recently Anthem. For now, the only upcoming title scheduled to come to EA Access via Play First Trials is Madden NFL 20, which isn’t too much to get excited about (for most of us, anyway).
With that said, we can very likely expect to see the upcoming Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order available courtesy of Play First Trials as we get closer to the scheduled Fall release for Respawn’s sci-fi action adventure. I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty excited to get my hands on the first single player Star Wars game in years.
Matt Bilbey, EA executive VP of strategic growth, said in a press release:
As we continue to invest in digital and subscription services, bringing our games to even more people across both consoles is an exciting opportunity for everyone. Our goal is to give players more choice to try and play our games wherever and however they choose and we’re happy to bring the service to PlayStation 4.
When EA Access launched back in 2014, Sony originally told Game Informer that the subscription service didn’t offer “good value to the PlayStation gamer.” It’s unclear what changed Sony’s mind after half a decade, but one imagines the increasing popularity of game streaming services has something to do with it.
EA Access will cost £4 a month on PS4, or £20 for the year. While I’m sure we all have our own opinions on EA and some of the choices the publisher makes, £4 a month just to play the Titanfall games again is not to be sniffed at.
