EA Boss Gives Update On “Groundbreaking” New Star Wars Games

Let’s not beat around the bush – EA are all set to crap out Star Wars games from now until the end of days (or until the franchise is inevitably milked to exhaustion, whichever comes first).

With E3 2016 creeping up on us, the videogame publisher has decided to give fans a brief update on a few of the games set in a galaxy far, far away that it has planned.

Motive and Visceral general manager Jade Raymond took to the EA blog to share how the developers were getting on with their respective Star Wars projects.

Raymond first discussed Motive’s Star Wars game. The formation of Motive was announced back in July 2015 and is “now 65 industry veterans strong” with more members joining the team all the time.

Raymond claims that the team is well on its way with the action-focused Star Wars project, and is also looking to create an original IP as well.

Then there’s the mysterious new project from Dead Space developer Visceral Games. As much as I’d love a Star Wars survival horror, I doubt that’s the path they’ll be going down.

Visceral’s game is being made under the direction of former Uncharted writer and director Amy Hennig, and Raymond seems confident that it’s gonna be a great game, even describing the project as going in “groundbreaking new directions”.

Raymond said:

[Amy] is a rare breed of storyteller, and she’s collaborating with the creative leaders at Lucasfilm to tell a new, authentic Star Wars story.

It’s not clear at the moment whether we’ll learn more about either of these projects at E3, but Raymond did sign off her blog post by saying “see you in a couple weeks!”.

Whether we get more at E3 or not, we’ve been promised plenty more information on both games in the coming months.

Meanwhile, EA has also confirmed a sequel to 2015’s Star Wars Battlefront, which is rumoured to be the first of many.

Can you really have too much Star Wars? I suspect we’ll find out in the next few years.
