Fable Legends Closed Beta Officially Shuts Down

By :

Fable Legends has officially shut down. The free to play adventure never made it past the closed beta before its cancellation- and now it seems it never will.

The news shouldn’t really come as a surprise to anyone, as developer Lionhead Studios themselves face closure and Fable Legends was cancelled just last month, so the beta shutdown was only a matter of time.

The ability to purchase in game gold was of course disabled following the cancellation in March, but if you purchased any of the currency before that and never spent it, Microsoft will give you a refund. Instructions for how to get a refund are over at the Lionhead Forums.

The above statement reads:

From all of us here at Lionhead Studios, we would like to thank you for participating in the closed beta and being a part of the game’s development. All stories have to end eventually, but the memories of Heroic triumphs and Villainous plots will last forever. Thank you for your support–you are all Legends.

Fable Legends was intended as a free to play multiplayer spinoff from Lionhead’s popular action RPG series. The studio expected big things from the game, even suggesting that it could run for at least 10 years.

In an age where franchises can grow increasingly repetitive and too afraid to experiment with new ideas, it’s a real shame that Lionhead never got the chance to show their brave new take on Fable to the wider world.
