A recent Xbox Store pricing hiccup led to customers being able to grab Fallout 4 and its season pass for the generous price of absolutely nothing.
Before you go sprinting to your Xbox, it’s my sad duty to point out that the issue (whatever it was) has now been resolved.
Fallout developer Bethesda has no idea what actually went wrong. When marketing VP Peter Hines was asked about it on Twitter, he replied that he wasn’t sure what happened, but suspected it was a bug and that Microsoft would sort it.
In fairness, it was presumably a screw up on Microsoft’s part – especially considering that Fallout 4 wasn’t suddenly free on Steam or the PSN.
In case you’re wondering whether or not these purchases would be honored, Kotaku’s Luke Plunkett reports that he managed to add the game to his basket, and subsequently his Xbox One library without paying a thing.
In other Bethesda news, a number of leaks have sprung up ahead of the company’s big E3 presentation on June 12.
As well as a potential Elder Scrolls remaster, there have been rumblings of a completely reworked version of the previously canned Prey 2, as well as Wolfenstein 2 and The Evil Within 2.
Could Bethesda have orchestrated this Xbox Store fiasco to distract from these leaks? No. Take your tin foil hat off and wait for E3 like a good gamer.
