Fallout 4 Mod Gives Characters Anime Makeover

By :

Have you ever been exploring the grimy, post apocalyptic, industrial looking world of Fallout 4 and found yourself thinking the game could do with some anime characters to brighten the place up?

If your answer to that question is “yes”, I’d like to say first of all that that’s just a little bit strange… but you do you. To that end, if you really don’t think Fallout 4 is anime enough, there’s now a mod for you. Because of course there is. There’s a mod for every damn thing at this point.

You can thank Nexus Mods user Hiyokomod for creating the AnimeRace Nanakochan mod and opening the floodgates for anime style characters to pour into Fallout 4. The whole idea for the mod came about, Hiyokomod explains, because of Kasumi Nakano, a character from the game’s Far Harbor expansion.

It’s important to remember here that in Fallout 4, you actually hear Kasumi over radio before meeting her. Hiyokomod wrote in a translated piece underneath his mod that the first time he heard Kasumi’s “cute voice on the tape”, he was excited to meet her.

Of course, when you finally do meet her, she looks like pretty much every other Bethesda character. By that, I mean she resembles PlayStation 2 character model with a sparse lick of HD paint. As I’m sure you can imagine, Hiyokomod was in bits when, after being “absorbed” by her voice for so long, he finally came face to face with the “real” Kasumi. Talk about Catfishing.

Just for reference, take a look at the original version of Kasumi below.

The modder explained:

I was in despair when I met Kasumi. At the same time, I realized that my ideal kasumi could not exist in this world. I had to choose between quitting the game or creating my ideal kasumi.  (I was shocked so much.) And I decided to make the ideal kasumi by myself. I created this mod after learning about modeling and character mod that I had never experienced before.

So, to show his love for Kasumi, he got his mod and came up with AnimeRace Nanokochan. This mod doesn’t just affect Kasmui’s appearence, it actually adds an entire race of anime people, and a tool for players to create their very own anime character.

The mod is a little visually jarring, but it’s still undeniably impressive. Unfortunately, there are no plans to add male anime characters just yet, but if you’re looking for a wasteland waifu, this could be the mod for you.
