While we’ve all been sat around twiddling our thumbs waiting for Half-Life 3 to emerge, one plucky fan has decided to take matters into his own hands.

Sick of the ‘will they, won’t they’ Valve/ Half-Life 3 saga, video game developer Richard Seabrook has spent the last 18 months piecing together his own sequel to the much loved franchise. It’s name? Prospekt.

Usually when fan-made projects are started up, they get shut down almost immediately by Billy Big Bollocks developers. Fortunately for Seabrook, Valve have decided not to crap out a lawsuit on the project, and have instead given him access to Half-Life 2’s graphics and assets, and given the game the go-ahead to release on Steam.

The official description reads:

Prospekt begins in the Nova Prospekt prison in the Half-Life universe. Gordon Freeman is slowly being overrun by soldiers in the prison, however unknown to him his Vortigaunt allies manage to find some help from a forgotten hero.

While not an official sequel, it’s at least been sanctioned by Valve so, who knows, it might be considered canon and lead onto something a little more real. Half-Life 3 confirmed? Most probably not. But we can dream.

Prospekt will release on Steam on February 11, will feature thirteen brand new levels and is “comparable to Half-Life 2: Episode One in length.” You can pre-order your copy right now for just £6.75.
