Two years into development, Resident Evil 2: Reborn is bowing out. But thankfully, the developers are on good terms with Capcom. The team explained their actions via NeoGaf.

After the official announcement of the Resident Evil 2 remake by Capcom, we officialise the end of the works on Resident Evil 2 Reborn. Contrary to what might be thought, this is wonderful news for us and, as fans, we’re so happy that Capcom has decided to take the lead of the project.

Capcom called us up in advance of the announcement and asked us if we would mind stopping the project as they had longer term plans for a Resident Evil 2 remake. They have invited us to a meeting to discuss further ideas.

It was pretty obvious that Capcom would take this route, but it’s good of them to first ask InvaderGames respectfully rather than threatening legal action. With the two companies working together, it could also mean that the remake is going to be very similar in tone to the fan-made Reborn.

Capcom announced last week they would be working on a remake of the classic after enormous support from fans, without directly referring to the indie game gaining popularity.

Capcom have not given any other information about what to expect from Resident Evil 2, but we at UNILAD will be sure to have updates as soon as they’re available.
